Name: Jane Gundry
Discipline/s: Show-horse and Show jumping
When did you start riding? When I was 3yrs old
A bit about your riding career: I got my first pony when I was 6 and she was a welsh A unbroken 3yr old chestnut mare, Mum and I broke her in and we learnt the ropes together. Since her I’ve had many horses and ponies with success in show horse, eventing, show jumping and dressage. I’m now focusing more on show jumping, but still riding for other people in the show horse ring.
Favourite Horse: My favourite horse that I’ve owned has to be Redback AKA Minka who was a 12.2hh Australian Pony, he was the one to introduce me into show jumping and develop my love for the discipline. We had countless wins together and he was the type of pony you would either win on or fall off, as he could be very cheeky at times, sadly he passed away in April this year.
Most memorable win: Winning Open medium hunter pony on Celestine Apollo at EA Nationals in December last year.
Best advice you’ve been given: Your flat work is very important when jumping because you spend more time in between the jumps than you do over them.
Name: Chloe Scardetta
Discipline/s: Show Horse, Breed and Dressage
When did you start riding: I first started riding around the age of 10
A bit about your riding career: my riding career started as a young horse mad girl wanting to ride with the best and compete at the Olympics! Over the years I have scaled down my expectations somewhat but have always strived to be the best rider I can be. I have been very fortunate to have had some very successful horses over the years including my versatile Purebred Arabian Gelding Wandu Hills Maestro, who took me to some of my most memorable wins in Eventing (yes I used to jump), Official Medium level Dressage and we were also selected as members of the WA State Show Horse Squad. I have had a few other successful horses but most recently we completed a 7 week trip East to compete in Sydney at the East Coast Arabian Championships and the Australia Arabian National Championships with our 13yo Purebred Arabian Mare Marbling Novelle. Elle was firing on all cylinders from the moment she stepped onto the float in WA and she gave me her absolute all for the duration of our trip bringing home 3x East Coast Championships, 3x Reserve East Coast Championships, 3x National Championships, 3x Runner-up National Championships and she won the Versatility Award for Purebreds for the whole show!! Since returning home I have commenced saddle training with our 9yo Purebred Arabian Stallion Marbling Aden so watch this space!
Favourite Horse: I try not to have favourites but Maestro is absolutely my heart horse.
Most memorable win: Without a doubt being announced the Australian National Champion Ridden Purebred Mare for 2020, still brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
Best advice you’ve been given: Be proud of what you have produced, give it your best and always smile.
